Seven regions

Pakistan is not one landscape. These are the places where its tourism is being shaped, region by region, and where future nominees are already at work.

Region 1 of 07

Gilgit-Baltistan

The Karakoram, the western Himalaya and the Hindu Kush meet here, around valleys such as Hunza and Skardu.

A valley of orchards, old forts and a turquoise lake, held between peaks that rise above seven thousand metres.

K2
At 8,611 metres, the second-highest mountain on Earth, reached on foot along the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia.

Skardu
Where the Indus meets the Shyok: alpine lakes, a cold desert and the road to the great Karakoram peaks.

Fairy Meadows
An alpine meadow at 3,300 metres, and the classic gateway to the north face of Nanga Parbat.

Nanga Parbat
The western anchor of the Himalaya at 8,126 metres, and the ninth-highest mountain in the world.

Deosai
A national park on a plateau averaging 4,114 metres: open grassland, wildflowers and the Himalayan brown bear.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Forested valleys, Gandharan heritage and the Hindu Kush, from Swat and Kaghan to Chitral.

Punjab

Mughal Lahore, the ruins of Taxila, shrine cities and the desert forts of Cholistan.

Sindh

The Indus civilization at Mohenjo-daro, the necropolis of Makli and the port city of Karachi.

Balochistan

A long Arabian Sea coastline, Hingol National Park and high desert plateaus.

Azad Jammu & Kashmir

Who deserves to be recognized?

Nominations for 2027 are open. It takes about fifteen minutes, and anyone can nominate.
